Carmel-by-the-Sea is my home. I have lived in our beautiful village most of my life—30 years full-time and 20 years part-time. Having moved here full-time for high school, I graduated from Stevenson. I hold a B.A. degree in government with a history minor from the University of San Francisco.

Professionally, I started my career as a television news broadcast journalist working in the Monterey-Salinas market. Afterwards, I worked “on-air” as a news anchor and reporter in markets in the Southwest and Midwest.

I returned to live full-time in Carmel-by-the-Sea in late 2001 and began a second career as a writer and author. Since then, I have done extensive research on Carmel’s history and have written four books on the town’s past and its historic architecture.

Recently, I was part of the grassroots group that organized our community to oppose cell towers in Carmel-by-the-Sea’s residential neighborhoods.  That experience in civic activism—standing up for Carmel, protecting its beauty, and defending the rights of residents to have a voice in this decision led me to run for city council.

Improvement and preservation of Carmel-by-the-Sea is the foundation of my candidacy.  My highest priorities are to protect our quality of life. I encourage beautifying our town, advancing public safety and advocating for much needed cleaning and maintenance of our public buildings, public landscaping, streets, sidewalks, and downtown appearance.

As a longtime local and author I know, understand, and love our community. I am concerned about what Carmel-by-the-Sea will look like in the future. Will we respect Carmel’s heritage and its primary focus as a residential village? Will Carmel-by-the-Sea lose its charm and uniqueness? Will we be able to hold onto what makes Carmel-by-the-Sea special?

My work as a news reporter has taught me to listen, ask questions, hear both sides, be fair, and keep an open mind. People who know me describe me as thoughtful, no nonsense, genuine and authentic. I intend to bring a fresh perspective and new energy to our city government.

“Let’s Renew Carmel’s Magic” together.  Let’s remember, restore and retain all that makes Carmel-by-the-Sea distinctive and one-of-a-kind. I ask for your support. I would be honored to have your vote!
